Sunday Afternoon - 1500 h

We are leaving for a night on the nesting beaches at 1600 h but we wanted to share a few photos of the morning dive.

From Laura:

We had a wonderful day this morning diving at Owen's Reef with such beautiful soft corals, gorgonians and vibrant coral. When asked what was the most interesting Luke and Zane shared "the colors of the reef"!

We are a little short on time so when we are unable we will try and tell a little more about the images.  In the meantime, please enjoy!

Sunday morning: currently 1020 h

We woke up at 0530 this morning to the view below:

The view from our Fare at 0530 h on Sunday Morning.

Loojking back to Fare #1 in the early morning sunlight.

The team is now off to make a dive out on Owen's Reef before lunch.  We are scheduled to make our first beach night tonight, leaving at 1600 hours for the beach area to set up camp, have dinner and begin our beach surveys at around 2000 h.

Below are some pictures of the team headed out for their dive this morning.

The place where we fill our wota bottles.

Headed out to the dive boat.

The sky is really beautiful with the wota color and the clouds!

About yesterday

We arrived on time in Port Vila and made it through customs without a hitch!!!! What a relief.  The resort folks were waiting for us and we made the trip out to Havanah Harbor in about 35 minutes.  Then we loaded all our gear onto the boat and made our way across to Moso Island.  As it was getting dark, we put all our stuff away into the Fares, unpacked a bit and then went over for dinner.  There are several families at Tranquility now but several are leaving

Below are a few photos of our trip over and landing at the resort.

Our flight to Port Vila is posted and on time!

Boarding the plane to Port Vila.

Working hard on homework.. I think.

Things looked a little turbulent coming in to Port Vila but there was only a little rain.

Loading the boat for transport from Havanah Harbor over to Tranquility Resort.

It turned out to be a beautiful evening as we were loaded and ready to go across to TR.

Beautiful sunset.

The team... looks like they are looking ahead to an exciting adventure!

We were greeted with a beautiful rainbow over Moso Island.

Saturday-1/6/24

1300 h

We are still waiting for out flight.. fortunately there is reasonable wifi here at the airport so we have something to do while we watch the hour hand move (slowly).

I always remember the sign on this hangar at the Nadi airport.

0700 h

We are now in the Nadi airport doing our 7 hour layover before boarding our flight to Port Vila, Vanuatu.  The team is tired but holding up well.  We are sitting in the food court area charging all our devices because by the time we get to Moso, the magic hours for charging things (1600-1800 h) will be over and we will not be able to charge things until Sunday morning.

I might note that the Fiji Air 737 we were on was pretty old... no real entertainment system, seats very close together and the plane was full!

The seating doesn't look so bad but it was really "tight".

We arrived in Samoa at 0445 h and the Samoa bound passenger deplaned.  We are boarding more passengers now.  Another 2 hours or so and we arrive in Nadi.

Thursday- D Day is here!

1/4/24

2130 hours... we are in HNL airport.  All checked in and through Security with minimum hastle.  Stopped at the food court to have a bite to eat before we board our plane to Nadi in about 45 minutes.

The Turtle Team chowing down at HNL airport.

Zane, Laura and Marc are at the Kona airport and we have heard from Luke that he is in HNL.  All is well as we start our trip (except our bags are really heavy!

Doing last minute homework prior to our flight to HNL.  Well, Zane may be playing a game.

Happy New Year!

This (Thursday) evening we begin our journey to Vanuatu. It is a 19 h trip once we leave Oahu but, of course, we will add 6 or 7 more hours getting to Oahu and waiting for our flight... UGH.

I will try and keep up to date on the blog beginning tomorrow with daily entries if possible.

WISH US LUCK!
